Teachers and Schools: We are ready for field trips! Though the city limits the size of walking tours in the French Quarter to 28 people (big or little), we are able to accommodate larger groups through a dynamic partnership with the Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses! Both tours can be adapted for your age group.
“The Port, the Pirates & All the Rest!” gives a great overview of New Orleans history, within a larger context of colonization, war, trade and independence. Kids will practice reading a variety of maps- both old and new. In addition, once the tour is booked, work packets will be sent including timelines, primary source documents (photocopies) and graphic organizers to sort through new information. $5 / child. This tour lasts about an hour long. We can take groups of kids up to 25 at a time.
The “Creole Kids Tour” introduces kids to a finite, slice of time. It’s a fresh glimpse of the past- one deeply impacted by the geography of our region, by the European powers vying for power, by the technological innovations of the time and by the economic capabilities of a port city. It touches on broader issues but focuses on a small moment, a Golden moment in our history. The kids will learn about life for children living at that time- enslaved and free, Creole and American. They’ll explore their hygiene, their etiquette, their dress and their entertainment. In addition, kids will visit an historic home, the Hermann-Grima House, where they can deepen their understanding of the past. $7 / child. This tour lasts 2 hours long and can accommodate groups of 50 kids.
